What to do with the old military equipment?
Hi-My late father was a Marine for 8 years, during and after the Second World War. It was the entire war in the Pacific and was aware of a rodent as circumstances permitted. I have his chest and one trunk. They have a lot of things, pictures of women Tahitian (HA-I bet you were valuable to a Marine myself!) Some Japanese Cigarette, a bayonet, canteen (dented by a bullet that almost lo), powder toothpaste, etc. Just what he had in his locker. I also have the jackets, caps, badges, etc. Class A and dress blue uniforms. There were medals, but I think we lost as children. I wonder what people do with military equipment of his family member. Being a Marine and a veterinarian was too who was he to me, to get rid of their stuff, but can be valuable. I do not want to sell, but the construction of a sanctuary dedicated to my dad seems a bit weird. Now it's all in storage, which seems a waste. Especially the uniforms. Any suggestions?
Contact your local VFW or Marine Corps League as they can use these elements for decorating and maybe there's a Marine may wear uniforms in a ceremony. There is also a national museum of MC and several smaller ones. Another type of museum can or even a university can appreciate the items. The local recruiting office and VA should also be able to help. You can be a tax deduction. This may take some time, but that can be donated in her memory. You can replace the use of medals and military records put in a box of brand (eg below) and put personal items in a shadow box with a photo.
